A Guide to MyCAA Scholarship Program
Military men and women get redeployed now and then. Hardly do they stay in one station for many months. The [people who get affected by this redeployment of military offices are the spouses, especially the ones who are working as career men and women. It becomes hard for the spouse to remain in employment. It is also hard for a military spouse to take any career education course as she or he does not know when the next redeployment will happen.
The growth of technology has led to the introduction of online courses which the spouses can now take. Military spouse online education is now easy to enroll regardless of the location of the spouse. Various institutions do not limit the location of the learner, thus providing the courses to students globally. This has come as a reliever to many military spouses who have all along found it difficult to advance their careers as they do not know when the next redeployment will happen.
There is also a scholarships program referred to as The Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts (MyCAA), that financially assists the military spouses pursue various degrees and licenses. Several military spouses have benefited from this scholarship program and have excelled in advancing their careers. Spouses who wish to become medical doctors, teachers and other professionals have benefited from this program. Military spouses now have the burden offloaded from their shoulder.
To apply for MyCAA, the army spouse is required to visit the website and open an account. Depending with information provide on the account, the board decides if the candidate is eligible or not. Successful applicants interested in taking up online programs are required to make application a month before the start of the online program.
We look at what MyCAA program covers. Normally the scholarship caters for the tuition fee, which basically includes tuition and examination fee. MyCAA scholarship also caters for the cost of getting a license or chosen certification from an institution that has been accredited by the government’s accreditation body.
The scholarship programs does not cover for 100% of the requirements of taking up a career course, and it is therefore vital for the spouse to note the same. This includes costs of tuition or examination for courses that are not in the military spouses Education and Training Plan. It does not also cater for the courses that the military spouse had already enrolled for, or those that the spouse has already completed.
It does not also cover for deposits or any payment that the candidate wish to make in future, unless the course been paid for is part of the course the spouse has enrolled for. The programs also fails to cater for the costs of uniforms or books that the spouse may need during the training.
